Anchorage - Eklutna Village National Park

Eklutna Village National Park - Anchorage, AlaskaWhen Russian settlers first arrived in Alaska in 1741, they brought with them the Russian Orthodox religion. These teachings soon began to blend with the native Eskimo beliefs until the Eklutna religion was born. The Eklutna believe that when a person passes on, their spirit wanders the earth for forty days and nights in a search for their possessions. It is in the Native American Cemetery in Anchorage that many of these ghostly searchers have been seen looking for their belongings. In an effort to keep the wandering spirits confined within the walls of the cemetery colorful, house-like structures were built above the graves and topped with the cross of the Russian Orthodox Church. These "houses" contain the deceased's personal affects. Cups, plates, spoons, combs, pipes and even a rifle or camera have been placed in these structures.

"This hotel was nice although it is haunted. I am not kidding. It is well documented. I saw people on the walls and there were sounds from the room next to me and there was no one in the room. I changed rooms because something was staring at me at night. This was in room 106. Room 107 and 103 were empty and yet when I walked by the door would click as if someone was going to open from the other side. The mgt. did state that there are "issues" that they have tried to solve."

Skagway - Golden North Hotel

Golden North Hotel - Skagway, AlaskaA lot of times haunted hotels are lucky to have even one haunt. This hotel has the fortune of featuring two haunts. The first resides in room 23 and her name is Mary. She is believed to be a girl who died of pneumonia while waiting for her fiancee to return from a gold prospecting expedition. Ghostly images of this girl appear in this room along with choking sensations that the guests who stay in this room are able to feel at night. Room 14 is haunted by a a strange light form that moves around the room at night. No one knows the reason for this.

The hotel is no longer a hotel. The signage is still there so it is easy to find in the middle of town. It has been modified however. The ground floor is for shopping for all those people coming off the cruise ships. I was told that the last time the property was for sale, they kept the haunted room intact. While the realtor was showing the place, a buyer might ask, "what is that rocking chair doing in the middle of the room?"
